Toyota Repair: Rear Passenger Door, 1991 toyota corolla, film protector

Question
My son broke the outer door handle on the right rear passenger door of our 1991 Toyota Corolla.  The inner handle works find but one cannot use the outer handle to open the door (the lock works fine too).  I tried to examine the mechanism but prying up the inner the door panel and plastic film protector but I could not understand the mechanism and how it works.  Could you please point me in the right direction as to what to do (also how to completely remove the inner door pannel).

Thank you,

Jonathan.

Answer
There may be a link connector that fell off the door handle release lever, the link comes up from the door lock and is held on with a plastic clip to the door handle release lever,if the clip breaks and the rod falls off. the outer door handle will not work, I suspect that this is what happned here because is it a common problem.
