could it possible that the starter is bad on this 1999 corolla automatic. it has 120,000 miles on it sometimes when i go to start it it does nothing then i'll try again and it starts sometimes after about 5 times?  thanks
Answer -
It's not onlu possible but very probable especially if you can hear a clicking noise when trying to start.

Answer
It's possible that the neutral start switch is the problem, you can eliminate the starter as the problem by disconnecting the small solenoid connector on the starter and then connect a jumper wire to the terminal directly to the positive side of the battery, if the starter is good it will turn over everytime the jumper wire is touched to the pos battery terminal, while your'e there make sure the battery connections are clean and tight and free of any corrosion, when activating the starter with the jumper wire be sure the key is in the "OFF" position to keep the engine from starting up.
