Toyota Repair: Replacing a tire stud on a 1997 Toyota Previa., brake caliper, toyota previa

Question
Hi Ted,

I have a 1997 Toyota Previa DX, model 5124A, that needs a tire stud replaced. It is for the front driver side tire. How do I replace it? Do I just pound out the damaged stud with a rubber mallet?

Answer
The brake caliper and the disk have to be removed, the broken stud can be removed with a hammer, there is a recess in the steering knuckle, line it up with the stud so it can be removed, install the new one by pulling it through with the wheel installed until you can torque it to about 80ft/lbs.
