Toyota Repair: 96 toyota 4 runner antenna, power antenna, inner fender

Question
I have a 96 toyota 4 runner SR5.  The power antenna is no longer working and it remains up after the car is turned off.  The motor of the antenna makes a loud grinding sound when the radio is turned on.  I unscrewed the top of the antenna and removed it from the truck.  The plastic mast is still attached to the antenna.  My question is, can I still use that same antenna or does that need to be replaced.  I doesn't seem like the end of the plastic mast is broken off.  Or does the loud grinding sound of the motor indicate that the end of the plastic mast is inside the motor and making that noise and needs to come out?  I would much rather not remove the inner fender and deal with the motor.

Thank you very much for your response.

Answer
Yes there is still a piece of the old mast that broke off in the motor, the motor needs to ge removed and taken apart to remove the broken piece, the antenna lead does not disconnect at the antenna motor but the motor can be pulled out just engough to get it apart.
