Toyota Repair: toyota paseo trans problem, toyota paseo, shift fork

Question
hi i have a problem with my 1992 toyota paseo. I have a hard time shifting into 2nd gear. Actually when i can shift to 2nd from 4000 rpms and below, but if i try shifting it above 4000, it makes a really sick grinding noise and its really difficult to get in gear. I have tried shifting to 3rd and 4th at around 5000 rpms, and i did not have that grinding problem. Well thx alot in advance for hearin me out. peace :)

Answer
The grinding noise is caused by one or more of the following: worn synchro rings, worn 2nd gear synchro teeth, shift hub, worn shift sleeve/shift fork. Transmission parts and gears are very expensive, you can very easily run up a $1,000 parts bill plus the labor, I would try to find a good used transmission and install it.
