Hello Mr Ritter,

I have a 1963 Toyota Corolla wagon, it has a bad front right wheel bearing. The ? is, will I be able to change the bearing without special equipment, such as a press ?  In the old days, I recall tapping in a bearing with a wood malet.

Thank You,

Are you sure the "1963" is not a typing error?
Just in case it's not, the wheel bearings on the early toyotas can be replaced without special tools, the inner and outer races can be driven out of the hub with a punch and a hammer.

Answer
In that case a hydraulic press in needed to remove and install the bearing, replace both the bearing and the hub. Check with a local auto parts store or the toyota dealer, you can save some money by removing the steering knuckle and having a shop install the new parts.
