Toyota Repair: Installing 89 Corolla Brake Light Switch, brake light switch, dash panel

Question
Hi!  My tail & brake lights would not turn off and I was told my brake light switch was bad.  I'm not the most mechanically-inclined person, but I thought this might be something I could do myself.

I was wondering if you could tell me step by step the proper way to install this switch, plus any do's and don'ts.  Also, my battery is dead since the tail lights drained it.  Should I jump the car and get the battery charged first?

Thanks!

Answer
If you don't have the new switch already buy it first so you will know what it looks like, this will help you find it.
Remove the lower dash panel below the steering wheel, locate the switch, it is on a bracket next to the brake pedal, disconnect the electrical connector and remove the 14mm mounting nut, then it's just a matter of installing the new switch, look at the old switch and make sure that the new one shows the same amount of threads where it makes contact with the brake pedal tab.
