Toyota Repair: ABS (wheel speed sensor), toyota camry v6, rear strut

Question
I just had the rear strut caps replaced on my 1997 Toyota Camry V6 XLE.
When the repair was completed my 'ABS' light stayed on.  It was not on before the repair.
The mechanic said that my left rear speed sensor was bad.
1. How often does a wheel speed sensor fail?
2. Did the repair impact the health of the sensor?
3. How difficult is it to replace?

Answer
I have seen this happen a number of times when rear struts were replaced, here is what happened:
When the strut was removed the mechanic did not remove the abs sensor wire bracket from the inner fender well, when removing the strut the wire of the abs sensor was stretched and broke inside causing an open circuit in the wire and the light to come on, it is clearly the fault of whoever installed the strut, yes, the mechanic is correct, the speed sensor failed, but only because the wire was stretched by him until it broke, tell them that you want them to fix it at no charge to you, this is the only explanation so don't let them bs you.
