Toyota Repair: Toyota 91 Camry DX, valve cover gasket, toyota dealer

Question
Real great forum you conduct here!

I have a 91 Camry DX, 4 cyl, manual, 134,000 miles. My Toyota dealer's mechanic says my distributor O-ring leaks oil and needs to be replaced. How easy is this job for me to do and what can I do to not mess up the timing too badly when I reinstall the distributor?

Thank you,
thomas

Answer
It's not that difficult, there are two 12mm bolts holding it on, once they are removed you can pull the distributor out and replace the o-ring, I highly recommend replacing the valve cover gasket at the same time, one reason is that it is much easier to reinstall the distributor because you can see the camshaft and the distributor drive gear, it is indexed and can only be installed one way, you can't mess up the timing, you just line up the distributor gear with the slot in the end of the camshaft.
