Toyota Repair: toyota 3E engine, toyota tercel, defective cars

Question
I purchased a toyota tercel 94 model with 42900 miles on it a few days ago. The Rod or Main bearing is making a clatter after only 100 miles. I am not sure which. Does this engine 3EE model have any history of this. I also feel the dealer that sold it to me new of this issue.  I can not do any thing because of a sold as is clause. What can I expect for a repair bill if a bearing is bad? I bought this car for my teen ager and now must return over seas for the usaf. I will be waiting for your answer on my email.
                Thanks,

Answer
The first thing I need to ask you is are you residing in the US? There are laws that govern the sale of defective cars in the continental united states which also vary from state to state, the best advise I can give you is to take it back to them and ask for your money back, I can't answer legal questions but it seems to me that they sold you a piece of junk and maybe they knew it, I don't know, you may have to consult an attorney.
I would recommend taking the car to a toyota dealer first and have them diagnose what the noise may be, get this in writing, then approach the selling dealer and present that to them and ask for assistance or buy the car back from you.
I can't be more specific because I don't know what country or state you are living in, I can only try to give you some advice if you reside in the state of California in the US.
