Toyota Repair: general- fuel injection, accelerator pedal, air leak

Question
I've been told the correct way to start a fuel injected vehicle is to turn key partially, pause to allow fuel pump to start, then turn rest of way to start.  I was wondering what damage is caused by stepping on gas pedal and just turning key. My P/U is hard to start unless I step on gas while starting. TIA

Answer
There is no need to pause after turning the key, just turn the key to start the engine, you should not depress the accelerator pedal while starting the engine doing so will make the engine take longer to start. The engine should start and go to fast idle, the on board computer adjusts the idle speed.
If this doesn't happen there is problem, possibly an intake air leak.
