Toyota Repair: 1995 Toyota Avalon, emission control system, toyota avalon

Question
The car starts, will run for about three seconds, then quit.  I can crank and crank, and it sounds as if the engine is jusssssst ready to catch, but then it won't.

it sounds closer to starting if i leave it alone for a couple of hours.

this has been going on for four days, ever since i last filled the tank (with gas from the station i always use).  i put two bottles of gasline antifreeze in it, just in case, but that didn't seem to help.

maybe egr valve?  maybe maf sensor?  maybe efi fuse?

i did replace the airfilter two weeks ago; perhaps i jarred something loose.

oh, and the check engine light is on.  i believe it came on after i filled the gas tank.  (i left the car running while filling it since it was so stinking cold outside, and i was told by the dealer that this can cause the cel to come on.)

any ideas before i take it to the dealer where they might want to randomly replace expensive parts?

thank you soooo much

(oh, and where's the pcv valve on this?)

Answer
Before I can be of any help I need to know what trouble codes are stored in the computer, this saves me a lot of time and unecessary guessing as to what the problem may be. Take it either to the dealer or another shop that can retreive the codes and then let me know what they recommend, don't let anyone replace any parts before getting back to me with their diagnosis unless they are absolutely sure it will fix the problem.
The MIL does not come on because of cold temperatures, there is a problem with either an engine misfire or an emission control system malfunction.
The PCV valve is located on the right side valve cover, the one next to the firewall towards the front, follow the PCV hose down from the intake chamber.
