Toyota Repair: 96 4runner pwr antenna replacement, power antenna mast, phillips screws

Question
My Power antenna mast broke off.  The motor still runs.  I compared the gear cord of the broken mast to the new one and the old one is about 7 inches shorter than the new one.  I would assume that the remainder of the cord is still down in the motor (based on another of your responses 11/30/2004 to Dave Rhodes).  In my case the cable with the teeth is broken off and stuck inside the motor.  I am guessing this will be tough, but I am ready for the challenge.  So, my question is:  how do I replace the antenna when the cable is broken off  and stuck inside the motor?  Thanks in advance!

Answer
The inner fender liner has to be partially removed, remove the mud flap and the screws and peel the fender liner back just enough to get the motor out, it's connected to the body with a single 10mm bolt.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the motor, the antenna lead can not be disconnected, pull the motor out far enough to remove the phillips screws that hold on the outer plastic cover, remove the small screw and nut in the center, open the cover and remove the broken piece of antenna mast, put it back topgether and reinstall it.
In the next step it helps if you have an assistant.
Turn the ign key to the on position
Turn the radio on
Wait until the antenna motor stops making noise
Turn the radio off, the motor will run in the retract mode
Feed the antenna mast cable into the opening
If it doesn't pull in, reverse the teeth, eventually it will catch and pull in.
