Toyota Repair: 97 Camry blown fuse, power door locks, blown fuse

Question
97 Camry LE w/105K miles just started blowing the 10 amp "gauge" fuse to the left of the steering column, intermittently. This blown fuse cuts out the speedo, odo display, tach, pwr windows, cruise control, pwr sunroof, car does not shift into o/d and temp gauge drops to cold position. Battery is also discharging during this time as my headlights got dimmer as I drove, car began bucking, radio cutout eventually. I've removed all window lift switches & roof switch to isolate the short but have been unsuccessful. HELP!

Answer
There about 24 electrical systems on the car that this fuse supplies 12volts to, the problem could be in any of them, out of all of them the most common trouble areas are the tailights and the wiring, the backup light circuit, the daytime running light system, power door locks and the neutral start switch.
Try removing all the fuses install the gauge fuse only and turn the ignition on, if the fuse stays intact, start re-installing the other fuses one by one, the gauge fuse will blow as soon as you install the fuse that has the short circuit, you should then be able to identify what circuit is having the problem. First check to see if all lights are working normally and go from there.
