Toyota Repair: engine problems - 1992 Camry, specific solution, compression test

Question
125K miles on car, have had regular maint thru the years. Engine died while driving the other day. Restarted and ran then died again. Had alternator replaced. Car wouldn't start. Replaced worn spark plugs and ignition coil. Still won't start. Mechanics now say problem may be a compression problem or timing belt. Had orginal timing belt replaced at 79k miles. What could be causing this problem ? Battery is fully charged.

Answer
Yes it could be one or the other(compression problem/timing belt, the first thing they should check if there is spark to the spark plugs and if there is fuel pressure, finding out whether it is a compression problem is easy, tell them to do a compression test on the engine, these guys sound like the don't know much and I would advice you to have someone else diagnose the problem unless they can come up with a specific solution to why the engine doesn't run, it's not that hard.
