Toyota Repair: Toyota power antenna, antenna mast, phillips screws

Question
I read your excellent advice on the 1999 4 runner and I have the same problem with my 2000 landcruiser. The antenna does not go in or out but motor works. I'm asssuming the antenna operation and repair are similar. When I removed the antenna mast the nylon toothed track only exposes approx 3" of track when the antenna is completely telescoped in so I'm assumming the rest (2 ft or so) of the track is broken off inside? a couple of questions. How do you access the antenna motor. It appears the access is throough the plastic inner fender? also once inside how do I remove the broken nylon. Thank you!

Answer
You will need to remove or partially peel back the inner fender liner to get the antenna out, then you can open it up and remove the broken piece, remove the phillips screws and the srew and the nut in the center of the motor and pry the plastic housing off, the antenna lead does not disconnect at the antenna so you will have to do this right there, move it out as far as the cable will allow, pay attention as to how it comes apart and put it back together, re-install the antenna assembly, and the feed the new antenna and cable in by first turning the radio on and wait until the motor stops, then have someone turn it off and feed the new cable in until the motor grabs it and pulls it in.
