Toyota Repair: toyota supra liftback parts, rear hatch, toyota supra

I am looking for the part that holds up the liftback on a 1988 supra (turbo if that matters).  I called the toyota garage and they want $92 each for the part and called it a "hood lift".  They also said I could go to most parts stores and buy a universal model.  What I am wondering is this:  part # 02020-60198 is called a hood strut.  Is this the same part?  Do they use the exact same part for the hood and the liftback?  Please let me know ASAP if you can, and thank you for your help.  kathy

The ones for the hood and the rear hatch are not the same.
Yes, you can go to most parts stores and buy a universal model just make sure you specify it's for the rear hatch and there should be no problem, the aftermarket struts may actually be the same for both but you may have to change some attaching hardware so just follow the instructions that come with the part.
