My 1991 toyota 4-runner(engine is a 22re 4 cylinder) will start up ok then won't idle ,idles a real low and then stalls.Happened right after I changed my thermostat, ran good for the day then this started.Had a mechanic look at it,changed intake gasket, fuel filter, checked fuel pressure(good)but he couldn't find the problem,no ckeck engine light comes up either.sometimes idles ok but no respnise when you step on the gas.

I need more information, what year is it, what engine is it?

Answer
Possibly an EGR valve problem, it may be sticking in the open position at idle, have it checked for proper operation. Also check for any disconnected vacuum hoses or any cracks or loose connections in the large air intake hose from the air cleaner to the throttle body.
