Toyota Repair: 1992 Toyota Corolla, fuse problems, amp fuse

Question
Hi Ted,

I just had my car inspected. (Prior to this no fuse problems whatsoever. They raced the engine extensively in the inspection. The mechanic noticed the high stop red light blown. I replaced it. I thought this to be unusual though. A few days later, my dashboard and rear tail parking lights (15a fuse) blew out. I replaced the same amp fuse. The next day the license plate bulb blew and so did the fuse again. The next night, when I hit a bump, the rear right side marker light blew, as well as the 15a fuse again. It was replaced again. I double checked and jiggled all the wires leading to all the lights within this 15a fuse circuit, i.e., Front/Rear parking lights, side markers, and even the fuse box by the drivers side. Please note that the head lights, braking lights and turn signals fully work and there on other fuse circuits. What could be wrong?...I can't seem to remember and I doubt, I hit a bump every time. Is there some kind of relay burnt out or a cut wire hitting a ground? The 1992 Corolla has a turn twist type switch on the steering column for the car lights, maybe some wire within here shorting out?

Please help me, ANY IDEA or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Yours truly,
Jamie

Answer
This is hard for me to diagnose without seeing the car, it's very possible that there may be a problem with the combination switch below the steering wheel, it is also possible that there is a problem in the tail light housings, especially the bulb sockets, it is common for contacts in the bulb sockets to wear or short to ground or partially melt so remove the bulbs, all of them, and check each socket, make sure the lead contacts are clean and not deformed and make sure the ground wire connectors are secured. Make sure each socket has the correct bulb installed and check the bulb contacts, they should be round and not indented.
