I have a 1997 Toyota Corolla without power locks, and the driver side door will not open with the key.  It's not the key, but it just won't open.  It's something just with that side, because the passenger side works fine.

Do you mean that with the inside door lock in the open position the outside door handle will not open the door, does the door open from the inside? You may have to remove the door panel and check to see if the control rod from the lock up to the door handle has fallen off, this is normally caused by a broken retaining clip on the inside of the door handle and is fairly easy to replace.
