Toyota Repair: 94 Corrolla with rough idle, toyota corrolla, air leak

Question
Problem trying to find out why my toyota corrolla is having a rough idle.  It has no problem starting, or stopping, and will run fine the few seconds, then will bog down hard and stay like that for a while, then surge to normal operation for a second, then bog down again.  It has yet to stall, but has gotten close.  During acceleration it stays bogged down, acting like it is missing some cynilders, and almost stalling, lights go dim.  Turning everything off does not ease the problem.  I got it used at 112k, and it is currently 133k.  And to top it off, there are no trouble codes to go by, it says it is running fine.  Ideas? Things to check?

Answer
The only thing that kind of throws me off is that the lights go dim, this would indicate an electrical problem.
Normally the rough running and near stalling is caused by an air leak in the intake system, check the intake hose between the air cleaner and the throttle body for cracks.
Also have the charging system tested to make sure the alternator is not causing a problem. If those check ok have the engine compression checked.
