Toyota Repair: Cam Sensor Fault 94 Camry, throttle position sensor, timming belt

Question
Aloha,

I have a good one for the books. My 1994 Camry (V6, auto) just died with 107k miles on it.  The check engine light is on and has an OBD2 code of P0340, which is a Cam Sensor Fault. The car starts and idles rough, but when you aply the gas pedal the engine will cut off and die around 2k RPM. Iam getting good spark and fuel pressure. The timming is right on the money. The timming belt lines up perfectly. The MAP sensor checked good, along with the Throttle Position Sensor. After changing the cam sensor, checking the wiring to the ECU, and changing the ECU, the problem prevailed. I even ran new wires from the cam sensor to the ECU.  Still no help.  Could you please give some insight on where to go next.

Mahalo, for any assistance you can give...

Answer
Remove the valve cover on the cylinder head that has the sensor on it and check to make sure that there is no excessive sludge built up on the reluctor teeth on the camshaft, the computer needs this signal to make the engine run and if there is excessive sludge the signal will be lost. Try cleaning the reluctor and see if it helps.
