I live in Kansas. With the recent cold weather, I have discovered that when I start my car, the heater blows warm air when it warms up.  Then, it quits blowing warm air and only blows cold air.  My car is a 1989 Toyota Celica GTS with 247,000 miles on it.  Could this be the thermostat in the engine?  Where can I get instructions on how to replace it.
Thanks,

Is the engine temperature normal, if the temp gauge reads very low even after driving a while the thermostat may be stuck in the open position.
I need to know which engine it has so I can tell you where the thermostat is located.
If the engine reaches normal temperature but there is no hot air the heater core may be clogged or the heater valve is stuck closed or partially closed.

Thanks for your answer.  When I start my car, the heater comes on and blows warm air as expected when the engine warms up.  However, after about 10 -15 minutes, the heater starts blowing cold air.  I drained and flushed the radiator thinking it might be clogged at some point.  This did not fix the situation.  I have been told that the automatic temperature control unit on the dash may be bad and not functioning correctly.  It the temperature gauge shows the motor warming up and remains in the normal postion about midway between hot and cold.
Thanks once again.

Answer
If you have the pushbutton control on the dash that may very well be the problem, I really doubt that the thermostat is at fault from you have described to me. At this point I would recommend that you have a toyota dealer check to see what the problem could be.
