Toyota Repair: 1984 5 spd. Van rear axle removal info, axle bearings, slide hammer

Question
After 235,000 mi. the rear axle bearings in my 1984 LE Van w/manual trans. need replaced. We got the axle on driver side out easy enough, but the passenger side axle will not budge! Is there any sort of clip or pin or ANYthing holding it from within the transaxle housing that we cannot see?

Your advice to aid it's removal will be GREATLY Appreciated!!

Also, we were planning on replacing both axle bearings & seals, along with the carrier seal (the bearing there seems OK).

Is there anything else you know of that we should check/replace while we're doing this?

THANK YOU!

Answer
The axles both remove the same way, since you got the left side out the right side should come out the same way, the only reason there may be difficulty removing the other side is that there may be some rust builtup, try using a slide hammer attached to the hub to break it loose or try this, take the brake drum and install it backwards on the hub, put on the lug nuts a few threads and use the drum as a removal device by sliding it back and forth, this works sometimes but may take some effort.
