Toyota Repair: auto kickdown problem, landcruiser 100, toyota dealer

Question
Hi Ted,

I have a 2000 model landcruiser 100 with a 4.5 petrol and 4 speed auto transmission. The kickdown is not working properly from 2nd to 1st gear at low speed. From a standing start it works ok but will not function when the vehicle is already moving at low speed. kickdown at higher speeds from 3rd to 2nd always work without any problems.

I have already checked the kickdown cable adjustment. Any suggestions before I hand it over to the local toyota dealer.

Thanks

Answer
The shift points are determined by the computer, the cable has nothing to do with it, it controls the softness or hardness of the actual shift from one gear to the next.
I suggest you let the toyota dealer look at it if there is a transmission problem it is still covered under the warranty provideng there are less than 60,000 miles on the speedometer.
