Toyota Repair: igniter system, auto wrecking yard, spark plug wires

Question
dear , ted or jack,       i have a 87' 4-runner, for some reason my car really started to miss really bad, change all the spark plug wires, coil wires ,spark plugs ,rotor , dist. cap. and it still missed. so i went to check all the wires harness, i found the wires from the igniter burned and fused together over the exhaust manifold with was wire code br and bw i think that what it was , also checked the fault codes on the check engine light, and it flashed a "6"  times eng. check light. i suspect that the igniter is faulty, do you suppose that when the two wire fused together that it short circuited the igniter internally?. i called my local toyota dealer on how much a new igniter would cost and it is very expensive. i was told the exact p/n of that igniter would have to be replaced and i could not subsitute it for another different p/n igniter. what do you think it is based on what i have told you , oh by the way the problems seems to be only at high speeds, but it seems to be getting worse as time goes by.  p/n for my igniter is 89620-35160  and coil,w/igniter is 19070-35130. some times it miss so bad that any foward movement of the throttle i get no respond to it at all and some times at idle it dies out , but after turning off the ignition wait couple of minutes and restarting it , it works fine , then acts up again.      thanks for your cooperation     jason

Answer
I would try to locate a used coil/igniter assembly at a local auto wrecking yard or a used toyota parts place, try looking on the internet if there is no local supplier of the part, you may also consider getting it from an autoparts place, there are aftermarket suppliers that make igniter assemblies, these cost about half of what the dealer charges.
