Toyota Repair: Turn signal anomaly..., cold winter day, fuse panel

Question
Thought I'd bring you up to date on my adventure.

While trying to locate the flasher (I'm still not positive I know where it is), I noticed that putting pressure on the right side of the fuse panel would cause the turn signals to work.  When pressure was removed, they'd quit.  Fishing around some more, I had my hand up under the backside of the fuse panel.  I felt something I thought could have been a flasher or relay and gave it a push... the turn signals worked!  Subsequently they've quit a few times, but each time I reach up behind and give a little shove to remedy the problem.  They've worked consistently for about 2 weeks now.

I guess at this point I'd really like to know what it is I've been pushing on, but the size and condition of my body won't allow me to get a visual on the situation.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again for your help.

1998 Tacoma SR5 Xtra Cab, 139K miles, 4 cyl, manual transmission.

Quite a while back my turn signals sporadically would stop working.  In trying to identify when, and how often, this was happening it appeared to me it was related to temperature.  Anytime the outside air was below 40 degrees and the truck was cold they would stop working.  As the cab warmed the signals would again function.

One very cold winter day, they quit working after the cab was already warmed.  In frustraion, I slapped my dash just above the emergency flashers switch.  Amazingly they started working again.
This highly technical remedy worked good enough that it served as a "temporary" stop gap.  With the springtime warmup, the problem relaxed and soon was a forgotten memory.  Naturally though, in the autumn it would again rear it's ugly head.

Subsequently, the problem would show up at other times and the the temperature theory seemed less and less the culprit.  It now happens all year round and even more sporadically.  I have stopped slapping my dash as I do so love this little truck.

I'd appreciate you looking into this matter for me once you've finished chuckling at the predicament.  I'm hoping you have the wherewithal to help me with this problem.

Thanks in advance for your time and expertise.

This seems to be a very uncommon problem, one which I have not experienced, I don't really know what to suggest.
You can try replacing the turn signal flasher assembly and see if that cures the problem.

Answer
The turn signal flasher contacts may be lose in the connector in the fuse panel, I would replace the flasher, the integration relay/fuse block needs to be removed to get to it, if you can give me an email address I can send an illustration of where the flasher is located.
