Toyota Repair: Strut Replacement on 93 Previa, bolts and nuts, auto parts shop

Question
You mentioned in another Previa strut question that removal of the dash wasn't necessary, just removal of the panel under the steering column/glovebox and that it could be done with the right tools. What tools are you referring to? Are they specialty shop tools?

Also, will I need to remove the brake calipers or brake line in order to swap out the struts?

Thanks,
Mark

Answer
The upper strut mounting nuts are 14mm, there are three of them, they can be removed with a wrench or a ratchet and socket.
The lower attachment bolts and nuts are 22mm and can be removed with a 22mm socket and a breaker bar or 1/2 ratchet, there ar no special tools required unless you want to seperate the struts from the springs, a special spring compressor is necessary to do that, there are a few different ones available, your local auto parts shop should be able to help with that but it may be more cost effective to remove the struts and then have them install the new struts on the springs.
