Question
HI, WE HAVE A 1995 TOYOTA CAMERY LE, WITH A STALLING PROBLEM. THE CAR WOULD START UP FINE ,RIDE ABOUT 10 MINUTES ,THEN THE CAR WOULD NOT MAINTAIN IDLE, AT A LIGHT OR A TURN IT WOULD STALL.   I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC  WHO IS FANTASTIC ...AFTER  HE TESTED THE CAR, WE THOUGHT IT WAS AN ENGINE TEMPERATURE SENSOR   PROBLEM.   NO PROBLEMS FOR FIVE DAYS THEN THE SAME THING STARTS UP AGAIN SO HE THEN CHANGES THE PART THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE SENSOR PLUGS INTO BECAUSE IT WAS A LOOSE FIT. THEN WHEN I WENT OVER A BUMP THAT'S WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL AGAIN.
SEEMS OK, RUNS GOOD FOR A FEW DAYS THEN STARTS TO STALL OR I SHOULD SAY IT DOES NOT HOLD AN IDLE.
IT SEEMS LIKE WE'RE GETTING CLOSE BUT NOT ALL THE WAY  TO RESOLVING THIS PROBLEM.
WHAT ELSE IS THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE SENSOR TIED INTO AND WHAT DO YOU THINK IS WRONG?   COULD IT BE THE - (ECT)?

Answer
This is a very common problem with camrys, it is the idle speed control valve that is causing this to happen, it can be removed and cleaned with very good results, if the problem persists after cleaning it a replacement of the valve is necessary, it's located on the throttle body, have the mechanic remove the throttle body and then the ISC valve and clean both the T/B and the ISC valve thouroghly and it will fix the problem.
