Toyota Repair: engine will turn but no fire?, distributer cap, electrical problem

Question
i have a '88 toyota camery. i was driving it home the other day when it started hesitating (like it was out of gas, put some in did not make difference). i asked a friend and he said it needed a tune up so he replaced the sparkplugs & wires, rotor button and distributer cap. after he changed that it would not start the engine will turn but nothing happens. i have been told that the timing might be off, timing belt broke, bent valve (no smoke),fuel pump(but loosened the fuel filter and turn the key and gas came out), coil,or ignition switch might be it. the car did not give any sign before this (no engine light). i want to be careful with some repair places because they may take me for granted where i am a female. i do know a little about cars but, i don't want to get robbed blind. thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer
First of all, if the tining belt jumped or broke there won't be any bent valves, so you can rule that out,it seems that there is fuel pressure so it sounds like there is an electrical problem, there are two very common areas to consider, the distributor and the igniter module, the distributor is the problem about 90% of the time so I suggest that you have it replaced.
