Toyota Repair: 1998 toyota avalon int. slight jerk at low speeds, spark plug wire, toyota avalon

Question
I have a 1998 toyota avalon V6 3000 cam24 with 114,000 miles. The engine light has been on for quite some time. The trac light has been on even longer. Also, sometimes the led of the car lights will be on. Just recently the car has been int. having a slight jerk at lower speeds. You can just barely feel it. Can you tell me what might be causing this. Also, can you tell me how to check the codes for the leds that are staying on.

Answer
The engine may have a misfire, have a dealer or auto repair shop connect the OBD scantool to get the trouble codes, most of the time if there is a misfire it may be because of a bad spark plug or a bad coil, it has three coil packs on the front bank of the engine, each fires two spark plugs, there may also be a spark plug wire connector that is leaking and arcing to ground, using the scantool will pinpoint which cylinders are misfiring.
The Trac/VSC warning light will come on if there is a check engine light on, it means that as long as there is a problem with the engine traction control is disabled, when you take care of the engine problem the trac light can be reset and the codes cleared.
