Toyota Repair: Drum Brakes, hub area, rear drums

Question
I tried to remove the rear drums on my 99 Corolla LE (non ABS). 120,000 miles. I had them off last year. The original brakes were fine and passed inspection. This time they seemed to be rusted in place. I thought perhaps the shoes had worn into the drums and were preventing them from coming off, but when that happens, there is usually some play in the drum untill it hits the shoe. These drums didn't budge at all. solid to the hub. I tried to hammer them off from behind the lip near the inside edge with a prybar and a 3lb sledge and still it wouldn't move.Any suggestions would be helpfull and appreciated. Thanks,Joe G.

Answer
It sounds like they are rusted to the axle hub, try spraying the hub area with some penetrating oil and look to see if there are two 8mm threaded holes on the drum, you can start a couple of bolts and tighten them to break the drum loose from the center hub, if not wait and let the oil soak in and try to hammer them off by hitting the front edges of the drum. This my be a dumb question but are you sure the emergency brake is released?
