Toyota Repair: 1991 toyota tercel, 1991 toyota tercel, toyota tercel

Question
I am considering buying a manual 5 speed 1991 toyota Tercel (130k miles) for $1500. It will not go into 5th gear - if you get it to go, it pops out.  Would repair be worth it or should I keep looking?

Answer
Repairing this transmission would be expensive, could be around $1,000 parts and labor, transmission parts are not cheap.  If the rest of the car is in decent shape it is worth about half of the price you mentioned, if you can get it for that it may be worth to locate a used transmission and having it installed, a used trans will cost around $350 and the installation about the same if you can find an independent shop to install it, my advice is to find another car that doesn't have major problems like this, let me know if I can be of more help later.
