I have a 1999 4runner 4 cyl Automatic with 163000 miles and my check engine light has been on for the last 1000 miles.

You'll need to take it to either a Toyota dealer or a repair shop that has the ability to retreive the diagnostic trouble code(DTC)once this is done the dealer can make a recommendation as to what needs to be done to fix it.
