Toyota Repair: 5 speed transmission, independent repair shops, toyota dealer

My 1990 Toyota 5 speed standard transmission has started jumping out of gear. (mostly 1st).
Other than replacing the unit what are some possible adjustments or repairs?

A very common problem with these transmissions, what happens is that the shifter bushings in the shift tower wear out so before you replace the transmission have the shifter bushings replaced it should fix the problem. I suggest you have toyota dealer do this because most independent repair shops don't know about this.
