Toyota Repair: Toyota Camry CheckEngine Light, toyota camry, auto mechanic

Question
Hi Ted,
I have a Toyota Camry 2000, with 36000+ miles on the odometer. 3weeks back i had a checkengine light displayed..so the auto-mechanic used pocekt OBD and said that there was a leak in the gas cap and had to be replaced..after replacing it..again a week later the checkengine light came back ..so this time the mechanic has said that the valve canisters were filled with carbon and had to be cleaned, after doing that  and resetting  the check engine light,i was using the vehicle...but now yesterday the same problem has come back.. when i called the auto-mechanic today.. he told that the valve canisters might have to be replaced. Please advice me on this wether the valve canisters have to be replaced or wether i can forget about the checkengine light and just continue my use of vehicle without any repair.

Answer
I highly recommend that you take the car to a Toyota dealer and have them check it, if indeed the evap canister has a problem it is still covered under the emission control warranty either under the federal warranty or your state emission warranty.
Most emission control parts have a 3yr/50,000 mile warranty and some even longer depending on what part is involved so do yourself a favor and have the dealer check it,they may charge you an up front diagnostic fee but if the warranty applies that fee is waived and you pay nothing.
By the way, do you know what the trouble code was and can you let me know so I can check what the problem areas could be.
