Question - Thanks Ted-I am not familiar with the differential fluid. I thought that was only in rear wheel drive. The car is an automatic. I probably should have told you that up front. Is differential only for stick shift?

I want to thank you for answering my previous question concerning my 96 Camry. I took your advice and was able to correct my problem.

I would like to ask another question. I have about 42,000 miles on the car. It is a four cylinder. I have changed the spark plugs and air filter, but other than that have not done any other maintenance. The car runs great.

At 42,000 miles, what other maintenance should I perform on the car (ie. plug wires, fuel filter, transmission drain & fill)?

As always Ted, thanks for your help.

Answer -
The transmission fluid should have been changed at 30,000 miles so do it as soon as possible, change the diferential fluid also, change the fuel filter, not so much because of mileage but out of age concerns, also change the coolant, the timing belt should be replaced at 60,000 miles.
Check the brakes.

Answer
Yes the front wheel drive transmissions have a differential, it's actually part of the transmission housing but on a 4cylinder camry it has it's own oil supply, you can locate it by looking under the car, note where the axles enter the housing, inside is the differential unit, there is a drain plug on the bottom and a fill plug towards the rear on the housing.
