Toyota Repair: Low Idle 1997 Toyota Avalon, toyota avalon, avalons

Question
Hello- I have a 1997 Toyota Avalon-- When I start it up in the morning it idles fine. As I go through the day sometimes It has a very low idle in park and sometime it dies (in park). I am interested in a solution to this problem. There are never any problems in the morning when the car is first started. The problem of low idle or stall occurs on the second or third start of the day. It is only in park though. I noticed a low idle of .75 or 1 rpm in drive. Any help would be great.

Answer
This is a common problem on both Avalons and Camrys, the idle speed control valve located underneath the throttle body is sticking because deposits built up in the valve and it will stick intermittently, there are two ways to go about this, remove the valve and clean it(may only be a temporary fix) or replace it(permanent fix).
