Toyota Repair: 4 Runner Code #171, air intake hose, air flow meter

Question
I have a 2000 4 Runner V6. 90k miles.
I get a check engine light that I had checked with a Code 171.
I changed the gas filter, which was dirty and put in a can of fuel injector cleaner but the light popped on again with the same reading.
When starting it in the morning I can't push the gas down all the way or it bucks. And it is sluggish even after it wamrs up.
Thanks,
Larry

Answer
If you nominate me for expert of the month I will tell you the fix for this, just kidding.
Look at the air intake hose from the air filter to the throttle body, just after the air filter is the air flow meter, it's connected with two small phillips screws, remove the air flow meter, if there is cruise control, you have to remove the actuator, once the meter is off it can be cleaned, get a can of electronic cleaner from a computer store or other electronic supply place, take a flashlight and look into the larger opening on the meter you will see two very small platinum wires that get coated with debris, spray the cleaner in there until the wires look bright and shiny, you can use a can of compressed air to dry them or just let them air dry, this really works, also change the air filter, if you use an aftermarket filter like K+N get rid of it, the oil in them coats the wires and makes matters worse.
