Toyota Repair: power antenna, stationary antenna, auto antenna

Question
I have a 98 4runner and the power antenna doesn't work. the motor still goes but the mast stays down. The dealer wanted close to $300 to fix it. Can I replace this with a stationary antenna and, if so, how easy would that be? I don't see any easy access to the motor itself. Thanks, Bill.

Answer
There was a manual antenna available for this model and you can install it and get rid of the auto antenna, you will have to remove the fender liner to remove the antenna motor, the lead is not detacheable at the motor so you are going to have to go all the way to the radio to disconnect it or cut it off and feed the new antenna lead to the radio, the radio has to be removed in order to attach the new antenna lead.
