Toyota Repair: weak / inconsistent acceleration, timing belt tensioner, crank sensor

Question
1990 Camry LE V6, automatic transmission, about 140k miles on it.

I recently took my car to an auto repair center because there was a grinding/rattling noise coming from the engine.  They determined it was the water pump.  They said it takes a lot of work just getting into that area, and recommended that I replace the parts in that area while they're at it (plus the water pump was leaking onto the timing belt).  So they ended up replacing the water pump, timing belt, tensioner, idler pulley, and cam shaft (there might have been one more thing, I don't remember now and I don't have the receipt with me).  Anyway, I got the car back and it was really nice and quiet, but I noticed it felt different when I accelerated.  For example, I notice it most when I accelerate on a freeway onramp; it's as if there's not enough power.  I have to push a lot harder than usual on the gas until the car finally responds and the RPMs shoot up to close to 4K, which virtually never happened before.  Other times, I'll be going about maybe 30-40 MPH, and I'll try to keep the acceleration constant at about 2K RPMs, but the meter stick will WAVER about 2K RPMs.  Also, when I'm accelerating from a stop (eg, at a light) the car will hesitate before finally accelerating.  Lastly, there's a clanky/rattling noise when I accelerate from a cold start.

I've taken it back to the auto repair shop, but they don't think it has to do with what they repaired.  What do you think?  Could a replacement on any of those parts result in any of the symptoms I'm experiencing?  What should I do at this point?  I'm going to take it back to the shop again, even though I don't trust them anymore.

Thank you for your time,
Kevin

Answer
i would say at this point that the repair that was made does have something to do with it . i believe it is the crank sensor or crank cog. i would take it back to them and demand that they look in to it as they were the last people to work on it and u did not have that problem before.
