Toyota Repair: Low-Mileage 1994 Corolla, cv shaft, routine service

Question
I took my gently-driven 1994 Corolla (mileage only 51,000) in for routine service at the dealer and alluvasudden it needed $1500 worth of repairs, including a new water pump for $450 and "both front CV shaft boots" for $800.  Are these reasonable replacements for a car with this mileage?  Note: I live in Los Angeles, so maybe the lousy air quality here caused these  components to deteriorate more rapidly!  Or did they take me for a ride?  Thanks!

Answer
I doubt if they are taking you for a ride, sometimes the age of the vehicle is a determining factor for a part failure rather than mileage, the timing belt should be replaced along with the water pump, the prices seem normal for the area.
Ask the dealer to show you the parts they want to replace.
