Toyota Repair: timingbelt, crank pulley, color match

Question
we are putting a timing belt on our 98 camry 4cyl and we can't get the timing marks. is their anyway you could help me get the right setting. thanks alot. becca

Answer
you will need a mirror.
on the cam you will see a hole
on the engine behind the cam is a mark a line actually.
it's right when you can see the line in the hole
which should be at about 11 o'clock looking at the engine the way it's mounted in the vehicle.
as for the crank... put the bottom cover back on, place the crank pulley on and line the mark on the back end of the pulley it looks like a small "v" you can feel it and it might be white in color. match that with the "0" mark and remove the pulley and the cover. you should see on the crank cog a mark that actually lines up on the block. and that's it. put the belt on and make sure the marks are still there when you tighten it up. good luck paul p.
