Toyota Repair: 95 camry-trouble starting, air intake hose, coolant hoses

Question
Hi,
I have a 95 Camry, 4 cyl. auto, 87k miles.  Occaisonally, it has trouble staying started.  With a turn of the key, the engine fires up, rpm's jump to 1500 or so, and then the engine dies.  Pouncing on the gas before it completely dies will keep it running, but as soon as the accelerator is released, engine dies again.  One cannot even shift out of park and into reverse without the engine dying, and to go anywhere I must keep the right foot depressing the accelerator slightly while holding the brake with the left foot to shift out of park.  After 1 minute of driving, the car is fine and runs like a top.  This starting trouble happens maybe 10 or 20% of starts, regardless of temp, fuel status (full or empty), or how long it's been since the last start.  The other starts are fine.  I've checked spark plugs (looked used but fine, changed 3 yrs ago at 59k miles), air cleaner, and used 3 bottles of fuel injector cleaner.

Any ideas of what to do next?
thanks,
Greg

Answer
This problem is caused by the idle air control valve, it's located on the throttle body and it has to be removed to get the IAC valve off, then you can clean all the carbon buildup out of the valve and re-install it, 90% of the time this fixes the problem, if it doesn't the valve has to be replaced.

Thank you for the comments.
The throttle body is located on the intake chamber, locate the air cleaner, there is a large rubber air intake hose going to the throttle body, it's connected with four 12mm bolts/nuts, you have to remove the intake hose from the throttle body and the remove the four 12mm fasteners and  disconnect the accelerator, cruise control and transmission throttle pressure cables and two electrical connectors and two coolant hoses and a vacuum hose, then you can remove the throttle body and then remove the IAC valve, you can identify it easily, it has three pipes coming out of it and is held on to the throttle body with four phillips screws.
