Toyota Repair: 1986 4runner, starting problem, vain attempts, electrical radio

Question
Follow-up
The starter has never been replaced.  Battery and connections are brand new.  However, would it make any difference if I were to tell you that this starting problem does not happen throughout the day, after sitting all day, or subsequent stopping and re-starting.  Only, after the car has sat over night, or for a similar period, is driven a short distance, then turned off briefly.  Almost as if the ignition system needs to "warm up."

Question -
My 86 4runner has had this problem for years, and I have just lived with it.  I've handed the car down to my sons, and want to fix it.
After resting overnight, the 4runner starts fine.  I drive one mile, turn it off briefly, pickup a cup of coffee and return. I put the key in and attempt to start it.  I see dash lights, hear the familiar click, but it will not start.  Shuffling the gear shifter back and forth, perhaps to ensure it is set in "park" doesn't help.  Turning off all electrical (radio/equalizer)doesn't help.  After 15 minutes of vain attempts and preparing to call AAA, it finally starts without problem.  Whats Up?
Answer -
Has the starter ever been replaced? After you make sure the battery and the connections are good, replace the starter.

Answer
I'm sorry but I'm a little confused, in your first question you said "after resting overnight, the 4 Runner starts fine" now you are telling me that "only after the car has sat overnight" please clarify and just tell me what happens when you turn the key to the start position.
Does the engine crank over? yes or no.
Does it crank over but not start up?
Do you hear a clicking noise but the engine won't crank?
Please help me understand and I can help you.
