Toyota Repair: Clutch, toyota corrola, slave cylinder

Question
I have a 1985 Toyota Corrola LE with a completely rebuilt motor. Every time I try to shift with the car on, it shuts off. But it will shift with the car off. Is this the slave cylinder needing to be bled?

Answer
There is a hydraulic leak somewhere in the system or there is an internal failure of either the master cylinder or the slave cylinder.
Have someone push the clutch pedal all the way down while you watch the slave cylinder, the pushrod should move at least an inch or more to release the clutch. If there is no movement I suggest that you try bleeding the air out of the system and if that doesn't help replace both cylinders.
