Toyota Repair: no start after rain, spark plug wires, state emissions

Question
Hello Ted,
I have 2 1988 V6 Camrys, one automatic with 107,000 and the other a manual with 167,000. Both have performed flawlessly for many years. The 107,000 mile Camry, all of a sudden, will not start after being caught in a rain storm. If its any difference, this care passed state emissions inspection only three weeks before with no problem.  Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks, Mark.

Answer
Moisture can affect an ignition system that may have a problem, you need to check things like the distributor cap and the spark plug wires and the terminals of the plug wires for any corrosion etc., Try replacing the distributor cap, rotors and spark plug wires.
The reason is that moisture is an excellent conductor for electricity and a marginal functioning ingnition system may be ok when dry but will short out when the humidity is high.
