Hello, I own a 1988 Toyota 4x4 Pick-Up with a 2.4 EFI 22R-E engine.  I have 175,000 miles on the motor, and I'm having a horrible time with my flange gaskets.  I have now replaced both Flange gaskets four times.  It always leaks again and again, and the last time I put lock-tite on the nuts and bolts that holds the assembly together, and it stayed for probably a month or so before it let loose again.  I have a lot of trouble getting the gaskets lined up straight due to the odd angle the assembly is in.  The gaskets always slide down before I can get it together, so I attempted using wood glue to stick the gaskets down long enough for me to get them in place, but still it wasn't good enough.  Any tips or hints on what the pros do?  I know the actual manifold is not cracked.  Any tips or hints would greatly be appreciated.  Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hello Austin, welcome to my expert page.
by flange gasket do you mean the one between the exhaust manifold and the head pipe or the one between the manifold and the cylinder head?

Hellow, they are the gaskets in between the exhaust manifold and the actual pipe.

Answer
Sorry, took so long to get back, what I normally do is install the gaskets on the pipe end, the exhaust pipes protruding through the top of the flange will hold them in place, make sure there are studs in the manifold and secure them with the factory locknuts.
