Toyota Repair: Replacing cv joint boot, toyota corolla station wagon, corolla station wagon

I have a 1989 diesel Toyota Corolla station wagon and I need to replace the outer cv boot. I have removed everything to do the job but I can't see how to get the cv joint off the drive shaft so I can slide the boot off. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Gavin.

The outer cv joint is extremely difficult to remove, what we normally do is replace both boots, the inner cv joint comes off by removing the snap ring, once it is off the boot for the outer joint can be installed by sliding it over the axle shaft.
