Toyota Repair: Engine over heating, temperature gage, cooling fan

Question
I own a 96 Camry, suddenly it started to over heat, now ive checked the water pump, its working, checked the fans they work when i put on the a/c, im wondering if it may be a temperature gage, thats its not kicking on when the motor reaches a certain temp but im not sure, any other suggestions you may have or if by chance you have the answer, id appreciate it greatly
Thank you,
Herb

Answer
Hello Herb, welcome to my expert page.
The first thing I always recommend for cooling system problems is to replace the thermostat, after that make sure the cooling fan is coming on without using the a/c, the other common problem is that the radiator is partially clogged up and not letting enough coolant circulate, replace the thermostat and if the problem is still there let me know.
